We’re releasing a significant update to Smart this Friday, April 11, 2025, at 7:00 PM AEST. This is the most substantial technical update since V3 launched over four years ago, and there are key impacts you and your teams should prepare for.

Background

As mentioned in our earlier updates, we’ve spent the first quarter of this year working on a broad set of technical upgrades and maintenance work. This release ties it all together. It includes a deep migration of our core infrastructure, shifting to new systems and approaches to support long-term stability, performance, and flexibility.

Impacts

We’ve intentionally scheduled the release for a Friday evening to reduce disruption and give the platform time to settle over the weekend, when usage is typically lower.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Smart will be offline from 7:00pm AEST on 11 April for up to 10 hours. We may finish earlier, but we're reserving that time in case of unexpected issues.
  • Notifications will not be sent while the system is offline.
  • You’ll likely be logged out and required to sign back in after the update.
  • Your personal preferences will be reset, including things like scheduler filters.
  • All existing requests will be cleared, including organisation join requests.
  • Carried-forward performance criteria will initially be missing as it's recalculated in the background over the weekend.
  • API users and anyone relying on internal ID numbers should note that IDs are now switching to UUIDv7 across the board.

Outcomes

This release is focused on foundational improvements. While there are a few small functional changes, such as improved tax handling on invoices, tighter integration between surveys and tasks, more API endpoints, and some visual polish - the big wins are under the hood:

  • More stable long term
  • More performant long term

These changes aren’t flashy, but they’re essential. They modernise our technology stack, improve our ability to support growing API usage, and lay the groundwork for the new mobile app.

Wrap Up

Given the scale of this update, our full team will be on deck all weekend to monitor systems and handle any issues that arise. We’ll be keeping a close eye on everything.

We also want to acknowledge the delay in the mobile app release. There were several contributing factors, but to be candid, supporting the web application and quickly responding to critical issues for your organisations will always be our top priority. A tropical cyclone disrupting most of our team didn’t help either, but we trust you understand. As always, we’ve put support first.
