Smart Summit, Updates & v3.3.18
Sam Webster
Software Developer
The very first Smart Summit is getting close. Join us this Friday 24th June from 2pm to get an update on the platform and see what we have planned. We’ve made a bunch of updates in the last few weeks, let’s dive in and see what’s changed.
Smart Summit
This Friday 24th June at 2pm (AEST) we will be hosting the very first Smart Summit, our annual get together where you’ll get access to our entire team for an update on what we’ve been working on, what we have planned and to answer any questions that you might have. To RSVP (and get your question in early) just fill out this form, it will only take a few seconds. We’ll be using Zoom for this one and the link will be sent out about an hour beforehand. To read more check out this article.
Flights & Logbooks
We have had requests to make the management of bad flight and logbook data easier, and are happy to announce that administrators can now delete a flight straight from the “Flights” screen. This is a very powerful tool that can quickly get things back on track, but also create headaches if not used correctly, so we highly recommend reading the updated documentation. An overlay will open letting you know the impacts, along with a link to the documentation also.
In tandem with the ability to delete a flight, is better management of the logbooks, as often the reason a flight needs to be deleted is because of the bad information in the logbook which, with the ability to now delete a flight, can be resolved. We also made a number of improvements to the logbooks, like being able to see all the flights & hours that somebody has done, which particularly in the case of students who have transferred from one Smart organisation to another, removes the need to have duplicate entries that often end up making things harder for everyone. The documentation for logbooks has been updated to reflect these changes, and you can still, of course, filter to just see the hours flown within your organisation too.
Exams
This release sees a myriad of improvements and enhancements to the exam system, thanks again to all your diligent feedback. There is so many little details here that, for those who have used the exam system, please jump back in and have a play to see the changes. There are just too many to list individually, but some highlights are:
- Redesigned screen when taking an exam.
- Better random question exams.
- Better protection against accidental submission of exams.
- Better question editing and performance criteria mapping.
- Better handling of abandoned exams.
- View history for exams and questions.
One key and important change, which was been sent out in advance to organisation owners, is some fundamental changes to how random question based exams work. Previously the questions were selected from the selected training blocks and subjects, but it did not consider if the question belongs to both. This was an oversight on our behalf because it allowed for example, any Aerodynamics questions, across all training blocks to be put into an RPL level exam. With this update the system will now consider that the question belongs to both the subject and the training block, so that the questions are scoped appropriately.
This update now means you can create targeted exams that suit your needs, like say a CPL AGK exam that would use the AGK subject, but would pull in questions from the RPL, PPL & CPL training blocks, but not the ATPL training block. Or you could make a PPL practice exam that uses all subjects, but is limited to just the RPL & PPL training blocks. If you have any questions about these changes, please feel free to reach out to our Support Team and we’ll be more than happy to answer them for you.
Invoice Printing & PDF’s
You can now easily print an invoice or print to a PDF. This brings with it some new finance settings which administrators can tweak to set the payment methods and organisation logo which is shown on the invoice. You can also update your organisations details to include ABNs and ACNs, or NZBNs and GST Numbers for those in NZ.
Wrap Up
That’s it for this time, we look forward to catching up with many of you on Friday. If you can’t make it, don’t worry - the whole thing will be recorded so you can watch it back at a later date. As always, there is a lot more in this release than what we can mention here so check out the release notes for all the details, like examiner ratings which have recently been added. Until next time!
